Hello readers! My name is Rebecca, but my friends call me Bee. My entire life, I thought I was neurotypical. It wasn’t until recently that I realized that because I’ve been dealing with major depressive disorder (diagnosed) as well as ADHD inattentive type (self diagnosed), I certainly am not neurotypical. I’ve used coping mechanisms to get me through my whole life. So it is with this new understanding about myself, as well as understanding the rest of my family’s special needs, that I embark on journaling this unique journey into parenting a special needs child.
I was a high school art teacher for eleven years before I went into graphic design. I was laid off in September of 2022, but I had already begun freelancing. In October of 2022, I received the call no parent wants to receive, and my son transitioned from full time daycare to full time homeschooling. The struggles have been great, but so have the payoffs. As hard as some days can be, I wouldn’t trade this time home with him for anything in the world. He began receiving services from the state in Early Intervention, and soon, he’ll turn three and continue those services with the local school district. Follow along with me on our journey,

What Else Do We Do?
Currently, I freelance graphic design and social media management. I like to cook, and I create Reels for Facebook and Instagram of my cooking and recipes.
I also have an Etsy store for digital products, which you can find here.
Tyler is in school for his CDL and hoping to have a career with a trucking company. Drew is almost three and is being homeschooled until he can enter our town’s Pre-K.

What Other Things Do We Like To Do?
We love the beach, exploring the outdoors, but we’re also equally comfortable staying in and watching movies or gaming. I love to cook and create Reels for Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Tyler is a volunteer Firefighter and ex-Captain of his company.
We are both members of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks. Tyler is a past Tiler, and I am the current secretary and newsletter designer/editor. We actually met at a karaoke night at the lodge, but we almost met a year before at a St. Patrick’s Day parade. So you can find us at the lodge a few times a week, playing pool or shuffleboard (or doing secretarial work), or taking in the view of the sun setting on the Navesink River, and enjoying good times with good friends.
